Dream High Fangirl

In the beginning I was very hesitant about watching this drama, but since watching The Moon that Embraces the SunI have become completely obsessed with Kim Soo hyun, the star of both shows.

In this drama, Soo Hyun's role is completely different as he plays, not a king, but a talented musician with an adorable Busan accent. Dream High is basically the Korean version of Glee, except less gay. These six students strive to follow their dreams in Kirin High School, a music and arts school. There they experience friendship, rivalries and many challenges that in the end make these students become a family.

I cannot express how amazing this drama is. Suzy from Miss A is the star of the show playing a bitchy, cocky opera singer who is forced to go to Kirin, sing R&B music (oh the horror!) and make it big to pay her father's debts.

Then there is Wooyoung and Taecyeon from 2PM who both acted surprisingly well. Wooyoung plays Jason, a Korean guy that lived in America for awhile so apparently feels the need to talk in English to sound cool. He falls in love with IU, who plays a chubby talented singer who is striving for her dream despite her physical image. Later, she takes off the fat suit loses weight and transforms into a thin and beautiful girl who is still very much in love with Jason.

Jin Guk/Hyun Shi Hyuk (Taecyeon) plays the bastard son of a politician who does not acknowledge him in public. He has a tense relationship with his father and wants to achieve his dream of being on stage to show him that he is useful for something other than business school. He fights for the love of Go Hye Mi (Suzy) against Song Sam Dong (Kim Soo Hyun), our main lead.

In the midst of these nice people with the exception of Go Hye Mi is Yoon Baek Hee (Ham Eun Jung, T-ARA), Hye Mi's ex-best friend. Hye Mi treated her like garbage and in turn Baek Hee decided to beat her at everything. Apparently someone didn't inform her who the main lead in this drama is. Hint hint. It is not you.

The drama contained some great acting and as usual Kim Soo Hyun blew everyone else out of the water with his beautiful acting and singing, which is not surprising since the rest of the cast are professional singers and he is the only authentic actor there. To be honest, his struggles and his hard work moved me and really made this drama stand out for me.

Some of the highlights were the dance battle in Japan, Soo Hyun taking a pot to the head (not really because of the horrible editing), the singing, the dancing and most importantly the teacher Kang Oh Hyuk whose unrelenting support and encouragement made me nostalgic for my middle school days.

In short, this drama had a positive message and it was incredibly inspirational. It makes you want to get up and chase your dream. RIGHT.NOW.
